LM Grass (also known as Berea Grass) is easy to maintain, but keeping it lush and healthy all year round takes a few simple steps. Follow these guidelines to get the best results:
Established lawns: Water deeply 2–3 times per week rather than light daily watering — this encourages deeper root growth.
Adjust watering during hotter months; LM prefers moist but not soggy soil.
Mow only once the roots have fully taken (usually 2–3 weeks after planting).
Keep your mower blades sharp to avoid tearing the grass.
Ideal mowing height: 4–5 cm (40–50 mm). Avoid cutting too short — LM thrives when kept slightly longer.
Apply a balanced lawn fertiliser (like 5:1:5 or 3:1:5) every 8–10 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).
Fertilise lightly in autumn to help the lawn stay green through winter.
Always water well after fertilising to prevent burning the leaves.
LM is shade-tolerant, but it still needs some filtered sunlight.
Trim back overhanging trees or shrubs occasionally to let more light in.
Rake off leaves that may block sunlight and restrict airflow.
Aerate your lawn once or twice a year (spring and early autumn).
Use a garden fork or aerator to loosen compacted soil — this improves drainage and root development.
Keep an eye out for weeds, especially in the first few months after laying new turf.
Hand-pull weeds or use a selective lawn herbicide safe for LM Grass.
A dense, healthy LM lawn will naturally choke out most weeds over time.
LM grows slower in winter — reduce watering and avoid heavy fertilising.
In early spring, lightly rake the lawn to remove any dry blades and help it “wake up” for the new season.
Avoid walking on new lawns for at least 2 weeks after installation.
Top-dress annually with a thin layer of lawn dressing or compost to even out the surface and improve soil health.
Maintain consistent lawn edges for a neat appearance — LM looks best when well-defined.
